Crime prevention event at Screwfix

Dear Resident,

🔧 Safer Neighbourhood Team Tackles Tool Theft in Newport 🔧

Yesterday, officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team attended Screwfix on Audley Avenue, Newport, as part of an initiative to improve security and raise awareness around the theft of power tools and other equipment used within the construction industry.

We spoke with a large number of people from a variety of trades, discussing their concerns and providing practical crime prevention advice to help reduce the risk of tools and equipment being stolen.

Officers also distributed SmartWater property marking kits, enabling tradespeople to mark their tools and equipment. Property marking can act as a significant deterrent to criminals and increases the chances of stolen items being identified and returned to their rightful owner.

🚲 Coming in January 2027 🚲

We are planning a further crime prevention event focused on tackling bicycle theft in January 2027. Property marking kits will be available for cyclists, helping to protect bikes and reduce the likelihood of theft. This will be especially useful for anyone lucky enough to receive a new bicycle from Santa this Christmas!

Please keep an eye on this page for further details and event dates as they are announced.

Kind regards,

PC Rich Edward

Newport Safer Neighbourhood Team.
